Biography

Sunny Brar (born February 19, 1985) is a weightlifter in the 63kg weight category. Her career began 10 months ago and she has already reached a ranking of #2 in England and #3 in Britain. Sunny came from a gymnastics background and then took up pole-vault at the age of 15, in which she reached a ranking of #2 for the U17's after only having taken up the event 5 months prior.

In December 2009, Sunny took part in her first weightlifting competition and became the Central England Champion. It was from then that she believed that weightlifting was the sport that she wanted to take to the highest possible level. She then became the Surrey & Northern Champion and finished 3rd in the English Championships. Following her performance at the English Champinships, Sunny decided to quit her full-time job and dedicate all her time to her new passion, weightlifting. A couple of months later she competed in her first ever British Championships and finished 4th.

Sunny's rapid rise to prominence in the sport has resulted in much media attention. Her first full story appeared in Ultra-Fit magazine, which then led to features in local & national papers as well as interviews with numerous radio stations and an appearance on ITV's GMTV.

2011 will be the year Sunny is hoping to achieve her first national cap and continue to progress as a weightlifter, with the ultimate goal of competing in the London 2012 Olympics.
